'I am new to linux so please be patient with me.'
I have taken a chance and purchased the Samsung 13.3' ATIV Book 9 Lite 128GB SSD NP905S3G-K02UK to see if I can have a Wheezy running on it. The refund for Windows 8 if Wheeze works is out of the windows as it looks like complicated process (exactly as M$ wanted I guess). There is no return policy once I have switched the notebook on, so my plan is if Wheezy does not work reliably on it, I want to restore it back to its original settings (with Windows 8) and want to sell it on .. There was no installation DVD with the product (it does not come with 'ODD as Samsung calls it' DVD drive, but I purchased SE-218BB/RSBS from Amazon @ £29.00 anyway, just in case), but that may make installing Windows 8 back on it problematic I fear as I have converted since Windows 7 (and installation DVD I had with last laptop) to Debian Wheezy and not been up to date with what is going on in M$ world ;( Looking around I have found that Windows 8 no longer uses Product Keys (there is just a sticker at the bottom of the notepad with Windows logo on it and nothing else) and instead it is programmed into the BIOS .... it comes with installation of Samsung Recovery Solution aka WinClone and the 128GB SSD has 6 partitions as shown in SRS Management Mode (press F4 on boot and then Ctrl+Alt+F10 password is secclx Disk: 0 [W:] RECOVERY [1] : [0~0] 0.5GB [S:] ESP [2] : [0~0] 0.3GB MSR [3] : [0~0] 0.1GB [C:] [4] : [0~99] 99.0GB [Y:] RECOVERY [5] : [99~117] 18.3GB [Z:] RECOVERY [6] : [118~119] 1.0GB from which one should be able to get the system back to original - purchase state I presume, but did not have time to investigate yet as I am waiting for the External DVD drive to arrive yet. I have managed to disable 'Secure Boot Control' in BIOS (pressing F2 key on boot) here is the settings at the moment: BOOT MENU Boot Device Priority > Boot Option Priorities Boot Option #1: 'Windows Boot Manager' default Secure Boot Control: Off OS Mode Selection: CSM and UEFI OS AHCI Mode Control: Manual Set AHCI Mode: Enabled Fast BISO Mode: Off PXE OPROM: Off This allowed me to use F10 during the boot process to get to select device I want to boot from. Using LinuxLive USB Creator 2.8.24 I have created from debian-live-7.1-amd64-gnome-desktop.iso a bootable USB stick to see how it works under the Wheezy. There is a disadvantage from those 'Live Linux' OS's (YUMI – Multiboot USB Creator atc.) running from the USB drives as it is created on FAT32 which limits the personal space it can create on that virtual drive (4 GB limit) the Wheeze is running from and therefore can't install all the required updates and backports to get for example the Atheros AR9565 wireless to work :( Looking around I have not found a method that I could make a (USB2 stick / drive that is USB3 compatible) bootable fully operational Wheezy OS I can try out as all other experiments before resulted in the MBR being overwritten :( so if there is a simple step by step guide I would be great full if someone could point me to it. I have ordered HGST 0S03560 1TB 2.5 inch Touro Mobile Pro External Hard Drive to experiment with suggestions and install the Wheeze on it to take with me as well when out and about and about and use my preferred OS.
